The CMGVRW trainers have successfully implemented the MEDIATION4ROMA training program in Brussels, Belgium. On the 16th, 17th and 18th of September, the face-to-face sessions gathered people of various backgrounds: members of the Roma community, Travelers, men, women, natural mediators (volunteers) and employed mediators. The diversity inherent to this group turned out to be a particularly enriching factor throughout the training and the many interactions that arose from it.
In the first weeks of July, in Rome, it held the first part of the training of the European project VET4ROMA. 30 mediators who work with Roma communities in the city of Rome, particpated to the training organized by Arci Solidarietà.
The training topics are the active listen and good communication, the intercultural mediation and the mediation with the Roma communities.
In particular, Italy focuses the training on the current situation about Roma camps and above all on the Schooling Project for Roma children and adolescents, in which the organization has been working for 20 years and in which project work the mayority of social workers trained.
The Work in Progress NGO will organize an intercultural mediators’ training in Novi Sad in June and July 2015. It is a part of the international VET4 Mediation with Roma project implemented in Spain, Belgium, Italy, Romania and Serbia with the support of the Lifelong Learning Programme of the European Commission and in partnership with the Provincial Protector of Citizens – Ombudsman, the Roma Inclusion Office of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina and the PGF Instrument (Project generation facility, Making the Most of EU Fund for Roma) of the Open Society Foundation that has co-financed the project.
The aim of this project is strengthening mediation and capacity building of mediators, contributing to empowerment of Roma women and men and their certfication in mediation in order to facilitate engagement of intercultural mediators in local communities, particularly those with a significant proportion of Roma. The first step to develop the Roma Mediators’ Training was the organization of pilot test in el Prat de Llobregat the 11th and 12th of May. The City Council of El Prat de Llobregat offered support to the event and explained the Roma mediation process that the city council has already developed in San Cosme’s Neighbourhood for 25 years.
