National Referents’ Training in El Prat de Llobregat, Barcelona

CEtYRpRW8AAOwF4 The first step to develop the Roma Mediators’ Training was the organization of pilot test in el Prat de Llobregat the 11th and 12th of May. The City Council of El Prat de Llobregat offered support to the event and explained the Roma mediation process that the city council has already developed in San Cosme’s Neighbourhood for 25 years. New Roma generations and the International Roma day celebration

 iendoalrioAfter more than 20 years of mediation between Roma children, their families, schools and local municipalities, Catalonia has young Roma very well prepared with post-compulsory education. Young Roma are taking the lead in neighborhoods’ assemblies and   local councils in order to express what it means to be Roma today, and how Roma community is facing day by day racism and the multiple ways of discriminations and high levels of poverty that they suffer.

Integrated plan for the Roma people in Catalonia

plaintegralThe third Integrated Plan for the Roma people in Catalonia was approved the past 22nd of July. The new Plan represents the continuity of Integrated Plan for the Roma people in Catalonia which was covering the period 2009 – 2013. This new Plan has the objective of maintaining and intensifying the positive aspects of the previous Plan and also  improving those aspects that may approach better results regarding with the implication and the participation of the Roma population in all the process, the framework contextualization of the public policies for Roma people at the European, National, regional and local level; the collaboration and the permanent dialogue with the local authorities and, finally, the consonance of the research findings with greater impact, that are contributing to improve the situation of the Roma people.
